I understand that an environment of respect is essential to the functioning of a therapeutic relationship. I strive to address both differences and similarities between myself and my clients in a respectful and curious way.
While I aim to be aware of my own culture, identity, and place in society; to develop evolving knowledge of specific cultures and identities of people I may come to work with; and to appropriately tend to these cultures and identities in my interactions with clients; my priority is to treat all clients as individuals whose cultures and identities I cannot know without committing the time and attention required to understand their unique life experiences.
I pledge to treat all of my clients to the best of my ability regardless of their various, intersectional identities and my personal relationship to those identities, including ability, age, appearance, culture, ethnicity, gender, gender expression, gender identity, immigration status, national origin, political orientation, race, religion, sexual orientation, size, socioeconomic status, spirituality, and others.
