As a private practice psychotherapist, the intersections of identity, ability, marketing, income, self-worth, authenticity, professionalism, marginalization, self-care, and much more become an entangled morass of uncertainty. Together, we can cultivate this unsteady ground until it is ripe with growth.
Private practice psychotherapy is a daring quest. It's also a job. We are helpers. We may also be customer service reps, publicists, artists, supervisors, bookkeepers, janitors, advocates, and case managers. As we blaze our own paths, mutual support is invaluable and shared ideas can be fuel for fulfillment and innovation.
Psychotherapists value acceptance and inclusivity, but finding a place to fit in, or to be appreciated for the ways we don't fit in, is still a daunting task. We value vulnerability, but being authentic with colleagues does not always feel safe. Having a place to be messy and fall apart can make community less intimidating.
Change is the only sure thing. This is especially true for psychotherapists, as we navigate our own personal and professional transitions while holding space for our clients' turbulent lives. We do magic by offering solid ground to others while standing on shaky ground ourselves. Fortunately, we can also do this magic for each other.

The brain is a living study in diversity. When society fails to respect this truth, the stress can push us to our emotional and functional limits. Once again, our humanity is laid bare, yet stigma is alive and well in the mental health professions. United, we can compassionately bear witness to our collective humanness.

More Info:
The Party of Peculiar Private Practitioners is a reduced-cost support group for psychotherapists in private practice in Texas who challenge the status quo by rejecting conformist views of professionalism and integrating things like social justice, neurodiversity, body positivity, art, anti-racism, music, geekdom, sex positivity, giftedness, and humor into their practice, and who are seeking support in the context of building and maintaining a private psychotherapy practice.
Members explore and process personal, interpersonal, and professional challenges (and triumphs!) along the way to becoming a self-loving, self-aware, self-assured, and full-on and authentically weird psychotherapist (and person!), in an environment where being messy and flawed is allowed (and encouraged!).
The Party of Peculiar Private Practitioners is ideal for professionals who are dedicated to improving their psychotherapy practice through personal reflection, growth, and insight; who want to nerd-out about private practice ethics, policy and business; and those who simply need more support just to get by.
This is NOT a consultation, supervision, training, or business coaching group.
This group is for embracing imperfection and sharing diverse experiences and wild ideas, NOT for measuring up.
If you are interested in joining this group, fill out the form below or text/call 512-806-0137 to schedule a free, 60-minute pre-group consultation. Scheduling a pre-group consultation is not a commitment to join the group.
The pre-group consultation is a structured, informal, one-on-one meeting where we will discuss:
• Your experiences of and interests in private psychotherapy practice
• The joys and woes of being an outsider, personally and professionally
• Past & current mental health experiences
• Challenges in life & relationships
• Past & current mental health experiences
• Potential benefits of group participation
• Expectations for group members
• Your questions and concerns about the group
• Other relevant information
After the consultation, if we both feel the group is a good fit for you, you can attend the next scheduled group meeting or take as long as you need to make a decision about joining.
I look forward to seeing you in group!
